Businesses With VoIP Systems Come Out Victorious After Sandy

Even though the destructive efforts of Hurricane Sandy are over a month behind us, many businesses are still picking up the pieces. While some businesses were completely destroyed, having to start over from square one, many of those who weren’t destroyed suffered incredible damage that has affected their profits.

One of the problems Sandy caused for businesses with traditional copper wire telephone systems was lack of communication with their customers for an extended period of time.  This, of course, leads to a decrease in profits.  However, those businesses with the foresight to install a VoIP telephone system were able to weather the storm without a problem.

According to Matthew J. Weiss, an attorney whose law firm is based in Manhattan, installing the VoIP system in their offices was one of the best decisions the partners could have made.  During Hurricane Sandy, business didn’t have to cease.  In fact, Weiss states, “I’m proud to write that we answered almost every telephone call, email and fax, covered every scheduled case and even managed to get hired on a few new matters.  All this while our building was closed for a week, mass transit was shut down, and most of our staff were without power and displaced from their homes.”

Because of the firm’s VoIP telephone system, employees were able to continue working from home while they weathered the storm.  Even though the firm itself wasn’t open, or even fully operational, their business did not suffer.

All too often, businesses are not prepared for disasters like Hurricane Sandy, Katrina and other superstorms that have changed the lives of people in our country.  Installing VoIP is a step in the right direction.  Not only will companies benefit because of the decreased cost, but in the event of another natural disaster, businesses can concentrate on the well-being of their employees instead of the well-being of their business.
